AEBF Steering Committee
The Steering Committee is comprised of the present chair, the two most recent chairs of the Asia-Europe Business Forum and a representative of the host country of the next Forum. The Steering Committee also includes representatives of each country participating in the ASEM process.
The Steering Committee members are to represent a range of backgrounds, including private and public sectors and major economic organisations. Additionally, they should possess special expertise in Asia-Europe trade and economic co-operation. In addition, the chair and co-chair of each working group should participate in the Steering Committee meetings leading up to the Forum.
The role of the Steering Committee
The Steering Committee acts as a preparatory body for the Forum and as a major link between all the countries participating in the ASEM process. The Steering Committee meets one to three times during the period leading up to the Forum. The Steering Committee members oversee and review the agendas and the operational plans for AEBF. The Steering Committee also follows up the implementation of recommendations of the previous AEBF.
As a focal part of the AEBF process, the Steering Committee members seek to promote trade and economic relations between Asia and Europe through ASEM co-operation.
AEBF Contact Points
The countries participating in the ASEM process designate a private economic organisation in their economy as a Contact Point for disseminating information on AEBF and encouraging private sector participation in the AEBF process. The Contact Point will assist in assembling the delegation to the AEBF and function as a secretariat supporting the AEBF delegates of the country.
