Business response to climate changeClimate change is a serious global challenge that calls for a rapid response from all countries and all actors. Global emissions can only be reduced when actors change their working practices, implement current and new technologies and place more emphasis on innovation and know-how.
Climate change also poses a challenge to industry, which has an important role to play in safeguarding well-being around the world. As industry requires energy, ensuring the security of supply at competitive costs is essential.
In addition to reducing their own emissions and improving energy efficiency, companies need to develop products, technologies and services that help to mitigate climate change across the entire society.
Finnish solutions to combating and adapting to climate changeFinnish companies have modern production methods and possess a lot of expertise. Many important actions have already been taken by Finnish industry in terms of climate change.
For example
- the consumption and production of energy has been made more efficient
- the use of renewables and low-emissions energy sources has been increased
- combined heat and power (CHP) production has been developed
The end use of energy by Finnish industry is very efficient compared with other countries. The efficiency of energy consumption has been developed on a long-term basis.
Energy conservation agreements between industry and the State have made operations even more efficient. The use of carbon-based raw materials is also efficient, and many processes are already close to the process technical minimums.
Finland is one of the world’s leading countries in utilising
renewable energy sources. Bioenergy is the most significant renewable energy source in Finland in terms of use. Industry is the largest user of bio-based energy, and waste wood from the forest industry is fully utilised for energy production by the forest industry itself.
Finnish industry continues to develop its operations and offer solutions to combat and adapt to climate change.
