Climate change is a serious global challenge that calls for a rapid response from all countries and all actors.

Climate change also poses a challenge to industry, which has an important role to play in safeguarding well-being around the world.

As industry requires energy, ensuring the security of supply at competitive costs is essential. In addition to reducing their own emissions and improving energy efficiency, companies need to develop products, technologies and services that help to mitigate climate change.

Energy efficiency has been systematically improved in Finland for years, especially within industry. Energy efficiency also includes the efficient production of energy. The efficiency of electricity production in Finland is high compared with other countries.

Finland is one of the world’s leading countries in utilising renewable energy sources. Bioenergy is the most significant renewable energy source in Finland in terms of use. Industry is the largest user of bio-based energy, and waste wood from the forest industry is fully utilised for energy production by the forest industry itself.

The use of bioenergy could be further increased, as could the use of renewable energy. Renewable energy sources account for approximately 30 percent of Finland’s total energy consumption.

Nuclear power is a form of energy that does not produce emissions. Alongside energy efficiency and the use of renewables, nuclear power plays an important role in controlling carbon dioxide emissions in Finland.
